Kids Lit Quiz 2008-09

Report by Beckey Downey Year 9

The Kids Lit Quiz takes place very year in Belfast. There are 10 rounds, each round with 10 questions under a particular category. A Quiz Master asks the questions. Many schools compete to win cool prizes. There are also chances to win prizes at the end of each round and even prize winning questions for the audience! The winner in Belfast Newcastle and the winner there goes on to compete in a world quiz in South Africa.

On the morning of the quiz, Dr Reid, the other members of the team and I took the long journey to Belfast. Once there we saw the other schools in their smart uniforms and imaginative mascots. After some cake we took our places and the quiz began.

There were 5 rounds, then a break. During the break, everyone piled into the canteen for party food. There was also a Book Club stall to buy books and stationery. After lunch, we had the final 5 rounds and the announcement of the winners. Defending their title, Sullivan Upper came first and each team member received a £20 book token, a book of their choice. Also included in the prize was a team trophy and a helicopter ride for the whole team. Although we didn’t win, everyone in our team thought it was a very fun and enjoyable day.

The quiz was held in Wellington College, Belfast on the 21st of November 2007. When we arrived we were shown to the gym, which was where the quiz was held. The quiz consisted of ten rounds of ten questions, each based on a particular topic. The previous winners of the whole world were there, but even they could not defeat new regional champions Sullivan Upper. The two teams from Foyle did extremely well gaining 13th and 5th place. Congratulations to everyone who took part!
